| STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES |
Responsibilities of all Parties:
Skills Training Australia, along with each student, whether enrolled under a part-time model of training or as an apprentice/trainee, along with all employers (where applicable) are signatories to the Workplace and Non-workplace Based Training Plan and where applicable and individual Training Contract.
Each of us has a part to play and is responsible and accountable to fulfil our obligations to ensure you as a student can achieve your goals and attain competency in your chosen study area. The following outlines some of these and are provided as a general outline only.
The following areas outline these which include:
Skills Training Australia shall:
o conduct a pre-training review of current competencies of all new students including part-time, apprentices and trainees and where applicable under a designated funded program a review that includes literacy and numeracy, in addition and under certain requirements additional assessments are undertaken such as VETASSESS for students applying to be enrolled into our Certificate IV in Nursing course;
o prepare and sign in conjunction with each student, whether part-time or as an apprentice/trainee and their employer, a Workplace and Non-workplace Based Training Plan determined by the qualification to be attained and customised (as required);
o ensure that all on and off-the-job training and assessment activities are undertaken by appropriately qualified, skilled and experienced staff in accordance with the requirements of the training plan;
o have in place an occupational health and safety policy and advise all students of their obligations under this policy; and
o provide on an annual basis, or upon request, Statements of Attainment which contain details of the units of competence within the training plan and the student's results of training and assessment that has been undertaken and completed.
The Student shall:
o accept all instruction and training as detailed in the Workplace and Non-Workplace Based Training Plan to achieve competence across all units and qualifications that they are enrolled in;
o make all reasonable efforts to acquire the skills and knowledge indicated in the training plan and to maintain satisfactory progress towards this;
o regularly submit any required evidence of on-the-job workplace performance and make all reasonable efforts to maintain copies of records of both on and off-the-job training and assessment activities;
o attend any required off-the-job training and assessment activities and session with Skills Training Australia at its nominated location;
o comply with any workplace or employer's statutory occupational health and safety requirements governing workplace training and assessment, practical placement training and assessment and any other regulatory requirements as they relate to apprentices and trainees; and
o Complete all forms and provide relevant information to Skills Training Australia upon request.
The employer (for Apprentice/Trainees) shall:
o take all reasonable steps to ensure the apprentice/trainee is instructed in workplace skills and knowledge (training) and assessed in accordance with the agreed training plan and contract;
o meet all relevant costs associated with any on-the-job training and assessments;
o ensure the apprentice/trainee receives the necessary supervision by a suitably qualified person if undergoing instruction and training in the workplace;
o provide all necessary assistance to Skills Training Australia to meet quality assurance arrangements required by Skills Training Australia, including supporting the apprentice/trainee in gathering evidence of workplace performance evaluations;
o complete all forms and provide relevant information to Skills Training Australia as requested; and
o Have in place an occupational health and safety policy and advise the apprentice/trainee of all obligations of the policy.
